Valda Lee Cooksey, passed away Tuesday, September 15th, 2020 at the Gables in Wichita Falls at the age of 88. There will be no services at this time.
Valda was born July 31, 1932 in Petrolia, TX to Howard and Mattie Rutledge who both preceded her in death. She had two brothers and three sisters all of whom also preceded her in death. She and Floyd A. Cooksey were wed on October 30, 1959 in Wichita Falls, TX. After graduating from Petrolia High School in 1949 she was employed by the City of Wichita Falls serving in various capacities. In 1954 she began her federal service career at Sheppard AFB, TX and retired from there in 1992, after serving at Fuchu AS and Tachikawa AFB Japan; Randolph AFB TX; Hickman AFB HI; Air Force Accounting & Finance Center, Denver CO; Kenai AS AK; Lowry AFB CO; and White Sands Missile Range NM. The majority of her career in federal service was spent in the areas of Accounting, Finance, and Contracting and she was fortunate to gain employment at each of Floyd’s stateside and overseas assignments. At the time of her retirement she was a purchasing agent at Sheppard AFB TX. She enjoyed sewing, baking, and decorating their homes. After they both retired, they traveled for two years in their RV searching for the perfect place to retire and finally decided that Granbury was the closest to what they were looking for. After the death of her husband and having some health issues, she moved to Rolling Meadows in Wichita Falls in 2016.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Floyd of 53 years and son, Barry Don Bell.
Survivors include daughter Sherry Fleming of Charlie TX, daughter-in-law Donna Bell of Ruidoso NM, step-daughter Gala Bonner and husband George of Memphis TN, five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
