Van Mac Schickedanz, 89, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Saginaw. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Elmwood Cemetery in Woodward, Oklahoma. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Billings Funeral Home in Woodward, Oklahoma.
Van was born in Ellis County, Oklahoma, to Grafton and Mable Schickedanz on December 14, 1923. He was the eldest of two sons. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and graduated from West Texas State University in Canyon. He was an ordained Baptist deacon.
He married the love of his life, Laurine Hohweiler, in 1942. They were married 62 years. He had a happy demeanor and was patient and generous with his time and affection. Pa’s lap was a favorite spot for all the family’s children. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laurine; son, Thomas; grandson, Tim; granddaughter, Blair Hoffman; and great-granddaughter, Arielle.
He is survived by his children, Wayne (Linda), Dean (Shirley), Kay Hoffman (Lindell), Frank (Carol), Lea Ann Dalton (Mike), Roy (Brenda); 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Stanley (Lisa); and numerous extended family and friends.
