Verl W. Daiker, 61, a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, Nonno and friend, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 1, 2012, surrounded by his loving family and friends, after a long and courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS).
Celebration of life: A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, in St. Francis Village Catholic Chapel in Crowley. Following the Mass, we will form a procession to Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery where we will have a military inurnment service at 1:30 p.m.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the ALS Society or the Community Hospice of Fort Worth.
Verl was born June 10, 1950, in Carroll, Iowa, to Leonard Daiker and Nina Mae Toms. He married his sweetheart, Gisella Flora Maria Basaldella, on Dec. 26, 1970, in Aviano, Italy. Master Sgt. Daiker retired from the Air Force in 1991 after over 22 years service to his country. His second career with the Bureau of Engraving & Printing ended too soon in 2007.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carlo and Luigia Basaldella of Aviano, Italy; and his sister, Sheila Muller of Milaca, Minn.
Survivors include his wife, Gisella; sons, Robert William Daiker and wife, Stacy, and Mark Anthony Daiker; grandchildren, Beau Anthony and Mia Gisella Rosa Daiker; brothers, David Daiker, Bruce Daiker, Wayne Daiker, Tim Daiker, Curtis Daiker and Todd Daiker; sisters, Rachel Whiteoak and Cindy Sanders; and his faithful dog, Tank, who was also with him at the end.
