Vernie Matthews Holman, resident of DeCordova Bend Estates, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018, at Harbor Lakes Nursing & Rehab Center at the age of 91 years.
Vernie was born in Haskell County, Texas on February 16, 1927. After High School, Vernie spent several years in California before joining TWA airlines as a flight attendant. After training in Kansas City, she moved to New York for her first permanent assignment with TWA. It was there she met and married Vincent Verdeschi. After 28 years, Vernie moved back to Texas where she learned to love DeCordova Bend Estates. She served as a Board Member on DeCordova’s Board of Directors, and as President of the Ladies Golf Association (LGA). Vernie loved to dance, play golf, play bridge, knit, sew and play piano.
Vernie is survived by her son Albert Verdeschi, brother Jerry Matthews and wife Myrna, sister Joyce Miller and husband Durwood, along with many nieces, nephews, and others in her extended family.
Vernie is preceded in death by husbands Vincent Verdeschi, Ralph Kidd, and Bill Holman; son Matthew Verdeschi; and brothers: Curtis and Johnny Matthews.
The memorial celebration of Vernie’s life will be held at Wiley Funeral Home on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 10:00 AM.
