GRANBURY — Viola Schatte, 84, passed away Friday, October 12, 2012 in Fort Worth. Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday October 17th at Bethel Lutheran Church, 4221 Boonville Rd. in Bryan. Burial: College Station City Cemetery in College Station. Visitation: Monday, Oct. 15th from 1 to 6:30 p.m. at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16th at Memorial Funeral Home, 2901 Texas Avenue South in College Station. Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Hour Ministries or the American Heart Association.
Vi was born May 25, 1928 in Giddings to George Walter Kappler and Alma Amanda Liberty Kappler . She married Dr. Curtis Eric Schatte on Dec. 25, 1947 in Giddings at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a lifelong Lutheran and extremely dedicated to her faith and the activities of her church. Her everlasting love for and devotion to Curtis, her loving husband of 55 years, was only surpassed by her love of the Lord. She always enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and other relatives. Her presence was always the highlight of every Christmas celebration. Her stories of her early days in Giddings always brought smiles to those lucky enough to hear them. She was a gracious and loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 15, 2003; her parents; and a brother, Allen Kappler.
Survivors: Daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Currie and Don Currie of Granbury; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Marc Schatte and Starr Schatte of Houston; grandchildren, Dr. Matthew Currie and wife, Dr. Vicky Yang of Brookline, Mass.; Elizabeth Currie of Venice, Calif.; sisters, Florence English of San Antonio and Irene Peyton and husband, Richard Peyton of Houston.
