Virginia Clarke (née Dunson), 91, passed away October 7, 2017 in Granbury, TX, home of daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Scott Thompson, and where her children Kathryn Daniel and Christopher Clarke had traveled to share her final hours.
Born December 24, 1925 in Falls County, TX to Reverend Wallace and Mozelle Dunson, Virginia earned a B.A. from Texas Wesleyan College and Southwest University. On June 28, 1946, she married Willis H. Clarke, Jr., whose career took them to many homes in the US and abroad. Settling in Tucson in 1972, she joined Christ Church United Methodist (CCUM) and became a dedicated choir member.
In addition to her three children, Virginia’s survivors include brother Wallace N. Dunson, Jr., three grandchildren and five great grandchildren, and her devoted “second” family in Tucson, Joan and Dave Ashcraft, and sons Chris and Tim.
Virginia will be buried with Willis and near family at Rosemound Cemetery in Waco, TX. Her children are planning a springtime memorial service at CCUM in Tucson to celebrate her life with those who knew and loved her as a generous friend and woman of deep faith. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashcraft/Clarke Music Trust at CCUM.
