Virginia Mae Snowden

LEE’S SUMMIT — Virginia Mae White Snowden, 82, went home to be with the Lord on October 2, 2011 at the Kansas City Hospice House.
Funeral: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at Acton Baptist Church in Acton, Texas. Burial: Acton Cemetery. Visitation: Noon until service time at the Acton Baptist Church.
Memorials: Memorial gifts may be given to South Texas Children’s Home, one of Virginia’s favorite charities.
Mrs. Snowden was born April 18, 1929 to Oscar L. and Eavie Blankenship White in Alice, Texas. She grew up on the family ranch/farm in the community of Clegg in Live Oak County. Virginia studied bookkeeping after high school graduation and married Robert M. Snowden in 1950. The couple was blessed with the birth of two boys, Steve and Gary, and the family resided in several Texas towns until moving back to the ranch in 1959. Bob and Virginia both commuted to Alice daily while the boys attended school in George West. The family moved to George West in 1964, and later relocated to Alice following the boys’ graduation. Virginia worked for several firms, retiring as vice-president of the Guaranty Title Company in Alice. After retirement, Bob and Virginia moved to Granbury, TX where they made numerous friends at Acton Baptist Church. Virginia moved to Lee’s Summit, MO in 2009 to live with Gary’s family. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Bob, in 2004.
Survivors: She is survived by her two sisters: Joyce McNeill and husband Joe of Bryan, TX; Gwen Norris and husband George of George West, Texas; by her two sons: Steven R. Snowden and wife Charlotte of Granbury, TX; Gary L. Snowden and wife Annetta Marie of Lee’s Summit, MO; by five grandsons: Bryan, Jason and wife Jennifer, Joel and wife April, Joshua, and Jonathan; by four great-grandchildren: Kelsey, Andrew, Nathan, and Jonah; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
