Wanda Joyce Davis Hensarling passed from this life into eternal rest on January 31, 2017. She was born on October 14, 1931, her eldest sister’s birthday, in Mt Carmel, Texas. Clarence and Evelyn Davis were the proud parents to this sweet baby girl that would later be nicknamed “Punkin’”. Growing up in Colmesneil, Texas and graduating high school at the age of 16, she moved to Beaumont to assert her independence and attend business school. Upon returning to Colmesneil and working at the local cafe, she met a handsome and strong WW2 vet named Elmer Levert Hensarling of Woodville, Texas. It only took a few months for the two to realize they were meant to spend the rest of their lives together. They said their vows on April 29, 1950, and spent the next 56 years together raising a large family.
Our mother was a homemaker for well over 25 years. She allowed her last to enter kindergarten before she took on the work place. She made many friends at Dillard’s and developed a family at Cabinet Sales.
A strong woman would be how she was characterized. One that demonstrated her strength up until her last breath. There wasn’t anything she couldn’t do and wouldn’t at least try. She loved to sew and later took up quilting. She could sling a hammer and use a chain saw with no problem.
Full of kisses and warm hugs, Mamaw was what the grandchildren lovingly called her. She made the best little boy coffee, pancakes, and oatmeal.
She also loved her church, Fairview Baptist in Granbury, and the friends she made there. You would find her in the choir every Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and Wednesday evening.
Much of our family time was spent on the lake at Granbury, enjoying waterskiing, cooking out, friends, and each other. Mom always had us packed and ready to go on Friday afternoons, giving our dad the opportunity to decompress from the work week. Our parents later settled at the lake and spent over 25 years welcoming friends and family to their quiet, peaceful, place on earth.
Dementia eventually took over and Mom spent her last few years at Martin Crest in Weatherford. She brought a lot of joy to the many people that entered the doors with her happy demeanor. She had joy in her heart and always carried a smile on her face.
We will miss our Mom, Mamaw, Punkin,’ and Auntie, but find joy in our hearts knowing she’s in heaven with our dad. She has missed him for so long.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury, Texas. Her life will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 3, 2017, at Chapel Creek Fellowship followed by her burial at 3:00 pm at Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery. Family friend and pastor, Keith Day, will officiate her service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimers Association or Chapel Creek Fellowship in her honor.
She was predeceased by her husband Elmer Levert Hensarling, her parents Clarence and Evelyn Davis, in-laws Thomas and Emma Hensarling, granddaughter, Lyndsi, brothers Darrell and Buster, and sister Betty Ruth Grimes.
She is survived by her children: Harvey (Donna), Tracy (Cindy), Les (Kristy), and Lewana (Jason Phillips), her siblings: Charles, Tommy, Billy Paul, Marilyn, and Lynda and grandchildren: Brandon (Sarah), Kasey(Shawna), Kathryn, Josh (Felicia), Justin, Tabetha (Raul), Andy, Emily (Shawn), Erik (Cassandra), Seth, Shay and Kooper.
