Mrs. Moore was born in Childress, Texas in 1917 to Jess J. Mitchell and Mattie Pearl Avary Mitchell. She graduated from High School at Tell, Texas and attended West Texas State University. Willie Myrtle came to visit her granddad Grief Mitchell in 1935 at Hill City and met Walter Harold Moore whom she married in 1936. They were married 72 years and lived in Hill City, Tolar, and Granbury all their married lives. She was a faithful member of the Hill City Church, Tolar Baptist Church, FBC of Granbury, and Southside Baptist Church of Granbury and once went over 20 years without missing Sunday School. At the FBC, she worked many, many years in the nursery and with children ages 2-3. Later, she was the teacher for the Women’s class at Southside. Mrs. Moore worked over thirty years for Maybelle Sportswear sewing factory in Granbury while her husband, Harold, farmed peanuts and owned a cattle business.
Mrs. Moore loved to sew and made clothes for the grandchildren. She liked to garden and raised “big ole” tomatoes. She loved poetry. She would collect poems and pass them out to others and would read poetry to nursing center residents.
Her husband, Walter Harold (“Cowboy”) Moore, preceded her in death.
Survived by: daughter: Allene Wilson and husband Steve. son: J.E. Moore and wife Shirley. Grandchildren: Terry Wilson Stuckey, Tammy Wilson White, Stephen Wilson II, Penny Moore Knapp, and Harold Moore. 15 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, her brother: Jess Avary Mitchell, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
